Open position: Research Scientist, Raritan, New Jersey
***
Assignment:
HµREL
Corporation is seeking a Research Scientist whose initial
responsibility will be to conduct a 6- to 12-month research
program to validate the metabolic capability of the Company’s
patented “animal-on-a-chip” cell-based screening
technology. This initial phase of the Research Scientist’s
work will be performed on the premises of HµREL’s
client, a "top five" global pharmaceutical organization
located in Raritan, New Jersey. Thereafter, the Research Scientist
position will continue on the Company’s own premises
in Los Angeles. HµREL
anticipates that the successful candidate will relocate to
Los Angeles when the New Jersey-based phase is completed.
However, the Company is also willing to consider candidates
who are interested in performing only the initial, New Jersey-based
assignment on a project contract basis, or candidates who
may wish to explore a position with the Company that would
permit them to continue to live in the Northeast.
This is a “ground
floor” opportunity to assume a leading role in building
a technology destined to become a major alternative to animal
testing and to change the way late-stage drug discovery is
performed. More detail on the initial Research Program will
be provided after an introductory discussion. Compensation
commensurate with experience.
Requirements:
• Requires a Ph.D. in cell biology or related
field.
• Must have
extensive, hands-on experience culturing, maintaining, and
characterizing primary hepatocytes, preferably primary human
hepatocytes.
• Must be
familiar with common techniques of culturing primary hepatocytes,
such as suspension cultures, monolayer cultures, collagen
gel overlay, etc.
• Familiarity
with cytochrome P450 activity assays and basic molecular biology
techniques.
• Project
management experience is a plus.
The ideal candidate should
have three years' experience, preferably working in an industrial
setting. We will consider candidates with less experience
if they meet all the other requirements above. The candidate
must be well organized, independent, innovative and have excellent
written and verbal communications skills.
Responsibilities:
The position will involve working independently to develop
and optimize culture conditions for primary rat and human
hepatocytes and adapt these culture conditions to be compatible
with Hurel’s proprietary microfluidic platform technology.
Utilizing standard assays, the individual will characterize
the viability and metabolic competency of these cells. The
individual will trouble-shoot both technical and scientific
problems when they arise with very limited supervision. The
individual will be expected to develop detailed protocols
(SOP's) and publish and present results.
